The sex motel room where armed cops cornered Mexico's most wanted man, El Chapo, has become a tourist magnet. (IG/Mexican Police)

Room 51 at The Doux Hotel complex was the scene of frenetic drama a week ago, when the Mexican drug kingpin and fugitive was chased down by heavily armed police and soldiers.

...The police wanted a discreet refuge to await reinforcements so they handcuffed him and took him to the nearby Doux, at the foot of the Barobampo mountain.

Triumphant cops took photos of a dishevelled, dirty and probably pretty smelly El Chapo sitting on a beige satin sheet on a bed in Room 51.

In the background a poster of a scantily clad woman is on the wall and just out of picture was a collection of sex toys and condoms for the hotel's more regular customers.

...The motel charges 300 pesos for six hours and it is apparently popular with young couples who live at home and also married men conducting affairs.

But now it is becoming popular with tourists.
