Despite having a noted expiration date on your passport, many nations require your passport to be valid for 6 months after your projected departure date from their country.

Because 2007 was the first year that U.S. citizens were required to have a passport to travel to Mexico and the Caribbean, many Americans will need to renew soon.

It is projected that 16 million Americans will renew in 2016, and that number is expected to jump to 20 million in 2017. It is possible that delays of 6 months could occur.
