Nine people were killed over the weekend in the village of El Cundancito, in the municipality of Coyuca in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, in what local press is reporting was the result of a shooting that came after an alleged “narco-summit” was held between the cartels Knights Templars and the New Generation Jalisco Cartel, or CJNG.

The meeting took place Saturday night and allegedly was aimed to set rules on the control of poppy production areas and the shipping of heroin to the United States, “El Blog del Narco” reported Tuesday.

According to the report, the narco meeting was convened by Jose Isabel "El Chabelo" Rodriguez Salamanca, identified as the head of a criminal cell that is part of the CJNG.

Among the attendees were members of the family Islas who also lead the cell of the Knights Templar in the region known as "Tierra Caliente," in Guerrero.
