In preparation for the coming elections to be held in 13 different states throughout Mexico, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), the Social Development Secretariat (Sedesol) and the Public Affairs Secretariat (SFP) signed a cooperation agreement to combat any possible electoral offenses.

Federal Attorney General Arely Gómez González said that the commitment made with the signing of the agreement is the consolidation of Mexican democracy as a fundamental part necessary to ensure that public servants conduct themselves with legality, honesty and transparency.

The strategies established by the agreement will provide support in preventing electoral crimes and encourage citizen participation in order to prevent human rights violations, she added.

José Antonio Meade Kuribreña, head of the Sedesol, said that transparency is the best antidote to combat corruption and warned that the scheduled programs will not be suspended.

In regions where the elections will be held, 550,000 “Social Comptrollers” elected by the beneficiaries of transparency programs will participate in every step of the electoral process in order to increase transparency of social programs related to the Sedesol, he added.
