Seven Mexican Beaches Await Recognition as Blue Flag Recipients Mexico News Daily

Seven Mexican beaches are vying for international recognition by the Blue Flag program, a designation given to those that meet sustainability, cleanliness, security and environmental standards.

Another 20 beaches already in the program are up for renewal when the international Blue Flag jury meets this year.

The beaches that have applied to join the program are Bahía Kantenah in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo; El Coromuel in La Paz, Baja California Sur; Icacos II and El Revolcadero II in Acapulco; Laguna de Santa María del Oro, Nayarit; Playa de Oro in Puerto Vallarta; and Playa Coral in Cancún.

Beaches are first approved by a national jury made up of representatives of government, civil associations and business groups, under the direction of the environmental organization Pronatura México.

An international jury makes the final decision, which will be announced in May.
