Mexico's police commissioner Enrique Galindo Ceballos (Breitbart Texas/Ildefonso Ortiz)
Despite the daily cases of shootouts, executions, kidnappings and extortion, Mexico’s National Security Commissioner Enrique Galindo Ceballos said Mexico is winning the war against crime.
“During the past three years we have seen a decrease in violence and in the indicators of violence,” Galindo said.
During his explanation the head of Mexico’s Federal Police said that one of the most clear indicators about the decrease in violence was the number of murders per 100,000 people. According to the commissioner, in the past three years, the number of murders at the national level has decreased.
Galindo made those statements during Friday’s visit to this border city where he, along with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske, visited a local high school. During his visit, Galindo brought a band made up of federal police officers from Mexico’s Federal Police to perform at the school, while just across the border the battles between factions of the Gulf Cartel continue.
Mexico’s National Security Commissioner said the music from the police band was a proper way to break barriers between the two nations since music is a universal language.
“Are they playing music so that we can’t hear the gunshots from Reynosa?” one of the attendees of the event sarcastically said out loud.
