Denmark is the world’s happiest country, according to a UN list that puts Mexico down in 21st place.
The east African nation of Burundi, plagued by political unrest, performs worst in the World Happiness Report.
It found that countries with lower levels of inequality tend to be happiest overall, with Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Finland completing the top five.
The report has analysed data gathered from surveys of thousands of people over three years from 2012-15. Participants were asked to grade their lives on a scale of zero to 10.
