Shakespeare Lives in 2016 – Anniversary Trailer (British Council)

A series of artistic and academic activities are planned in Mexico to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death on April 23 as part of the British Council's "Shakespeare Lives" project.

Shakespeare, who was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, is considered one of the greatest playwrights in world literature and nearly all of his works are still being staged.

Numerous theater, music, film, television and dance events are planned in Mexico starting this month and running until the end of the year to mark the quadricentennial of the death of the "Bard of Avon" on April 23, 1616.

The British Council, the British Embassy and the GREAT Britain campaign worked with the Culture Secretariat, the National Fine Arts Institute, the National Auditorium, the National Autonomous University of Mexico and Anglo Arts to organize the events in Mexico.

The playwright, known for such works as "Hamlet," "Macbeth" and "King Lear," has had a "notable influence" on the lives of millions of people around the world, British Ambassador to Mexico Duncan Taylor said during the unveiling of the "Shakespeare Lives" agenda in Mexico City.
