Moviemakers from Mexico have been basking in the Hollywood spotlight. They’re drawing huge audiences to their films and earning the industry’s highest honors. Now they’re also influencing young filmmakers in Latin America.

For the last few years Hollywood and its top awards event - the Oscars - have been dominated by Mexican film directors. Mexican cinematographer Emmanuel Lubeski - nicknamed “The Goat” - has won 3 years in a row.

And it doesn’t appear the country's rich talent pool will be drying up anytime soon. “Americas Now” recently paid a visit to Mexico’s most prestigious film school. It appears many young film students would like to see more traditional storytelling about life and social problems rather than Hollywood’s standard “junk food” fantasy films designed to earn huge box office profits.

Watch Correspondent Mike Kirsch go behind the lens at this film school in Mexico City. He shows us how a new generation of filmmakers is learning to shoot for the stars.
