The authoritarian troika that dictate the national political agenda is failing at interpretation. Simply put, they are not reading anything right, they are choking themselves trying to read the current national situation.

MV Note: The Anti-corruption System legislation passed Thursday allows officials to keep their "3of 3" financial information private (tax returns and statements of assets and possible conflicts of interest), but requires any individual or company that receives government funds to make their information public. This would seem to include not only businesses receiving government contracts but also individuals on welfare or student grants.

Neither Osorio [Osorio Chong, Secretary of Government Relations] nor Gamboa [Emilio Gamboa, head of the PRI, Party of the Institutional Revolution, caucus in the Senate], nor Beltrones [Manilo Beltrones, PRI party president] and much less their boss [President Peña Nieto] are aware of the very serious mistake they are making in carrying out orchestrated and perverse opposition to the promotion of genuine anti-corruption laws and calls for the transparent exercise of public office with the 3of3 Law that society is demanding in a most blatant and emphatic way. [MV Note: Over 600,000 citizens signed a petition that legally obligated Congress to consider the proposed "3of 3" law. This is unprecedented in Mexico.]

They are not taking into account the future consequences they will have on the power system in which they so desperately try to embed Mafioso tactics. The tactics they employ in response to the social clamor are not only disconnected from popular will but confront it in a most challenging and threatening manner.

World history clearly evinces to us that when a political group butts in to slow the progress and modernization of a nation and when repression and ignorance of, rather than unity with, society takes place, only one thing transpires: they go to the junkyard of history! Yes, there where all the junk accumulates, the unusable waste, all the little twisted unrecognizable things; there they willl go and there they will stay. In the history of democracy no political movement has successfully survived a confrontation with society.
