Donald Trump used a campaign stop in Pittsburgh to rail against U.S. trade policy, saying that if he's elected president he'll renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico, and threatened to leave NAFTA if a better deal isn't made.

Trump, giving a policy speech at the Alumisource facility in the Mon Valley south of Pittsburgh, vowed the renegotiation of NAFTA would be done to get a better deal for American workers.

"By a lot, not just a little, a lot for our workers," Trump said in a speech that was webcast.

NAFTA has been controversial since before it was enacted in 1994, and it was a foundation of the 1992 presidential campaign of Ross Perot. Public Citizen estimated that it has cost a million U.S. jobs; the U.S. Trade Representative's website said that it has supported 3 million American jobs.

Trump said that if Canada and Mexico balked at renegotiating the 23-year-old deal, he would file to leave the free-trade agreement. He said Canada and Mexico might not want to renegotiate because they have been having their way with trade.

"Not with Trump, they won't have their own way," Trump said.
