Government Won't Meet Again with Dissident Teachers Until They Eliminate Roadblocks Aristegui Noticias

Secretary of Government Relations, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, warned that there will not be another meeting with the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE) until they eliminate the road blocks they are maintaining in Oaxaca.

In a radio interview, he said that the last time he met with the dissident teachers, he made it very clear that there will be no meetings to negotiate as long as they don't put forward something on their part to demonstrate interest in moving forward.

"Those are the conditions, because we have the obligation to dialogue, but also to ensure the majority [of the population of the state] that, at present, have all their freedoms cut," Osorio Chong stressed to Focus News.

He noted that he has sat down with them twice to show good will, and that there were very good conditions for dialogue and rapprochement. However, he reiterated:

"I explained to them that in a dialogue process, [protest] actions are put aside as we seek alternative solutions, but they have thought that it is only the government that has to do its part and they are wrong."

Therefore, he said, either they resolve the issue of the blockades and seeks the possibility of meeting and solution, or

"we will have to take appropriate action as the federal government responsible for governance and tranquility of the state of Oaxaca."

In regard to the demand that the government should have already acted against the dissidents, he said he has always sought to resolve the conflict through dialogue, but of course the Mexican government will have to act if they do not come to some agreement.
