Mexico City's Water Crisis: Residents are facing water shortages as government officials enjoy their pools (teleSUR English)

Mexico's national water authority Conagua has reported that 477 municipalities in the country were suffering the effects of drought at the end of June.

Municipalities in all 32 of Mexico's states have been affected by the dry spell, with the worst of it still being felt in Baja California state, where all five municipalities in the state are feeling the effects of water shortages and four of them mired in extreme drought, according to Conagua.

Water supply issues have been affecting Baja California for the last 30 months and the situation is not expected to improve this year

Elsewhere, 72.2% of municipalities in Sonora state are affected by drought, 58.8% of the municipalities in Tabasco, 54.5% of the municipalities in Campeche, 52.4% in Veracruz state, 44.4% in Sinaloa, 44.1% in Chiapas, 41.5% in Yucatán and 35.8% in Chihuahua state.

Last month 445 Mexican municipalities were reported to be suffering from drought, according to Conagua.
