Donald Trump was set to launch an attack on Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim on Friday morning, sources told the Wall Street Journal. Trump is reeling in the polls after a week of revelations about the Republican candidate’s behavior toward women. Allegations surfaced in the New York Times against Trump, made by two women who came forward to tell of how Trump touched them inappropriately and without their consent.
Sources say that Donald Trump is going to claim that the allegations have been “created” by Slim, who is a share-holder in the company that owns the New York Times.
In his unhinged rally speech on Thursday afternoon, Trump told the crowd that the press was out to get him, and that they “will attack you, they will slander you, they will seek to destroy your career and your family.” After the rally, audience members threatened the pool reporters who were on site. Trump’s actions caused the Chairman of the Committee to Protect Journalists to release a statement describing Trump as a threat to journalists.
By tying Carlos Slim to the New York Times, Trump hopes to divert attention from the sexual assault allegations, arguing that they are part of a vast Clinton conspiracy to prevent him from being president.
