Ash and smoke spews 2000 meters into the sky from Mexico's Colima Volcano (ODN)

Columns of ash spurted into the sky when a volcano in Mexico erupted on Tuesday.

Colima volcano, also known as the "Fire Volcano", erupted three times - first at 11:02am, then at 11:12am and again at 12:12pm, the Civil Protection Agency says.

Each eruption sent clouds of ash and gas spewing into the sky, reaching up to two kilometers into the air.

Colima is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, and has been in a "near constant" state of activity since 1994, Volcano Discovery says.
