Mexico City is taking measures to prevent and respond to sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence against women and girls in public spaces. (UN Women)
The National Human Rights Commission (CNHD) said that Mexico has been incapable of eradicating gender inequality, violence against woman and has so far been unable to provide the same opportunities that are rewarded to the men. The organization has expressed its worry about the current situation of violence, inequality and discrimination faced by Mexican women, which diminishes their human rights.
“Eliminating discrimination and violence against women is a great necessity, as they are two great barriers preventing women from being able to fully exercise their given rights. It’s important to promote more and greater actions and guarantee that they are effective,” the CNDH said.
The CNHD has indicated that they will continue working to defend and promote gender equality in Mexican society and do everything in their power to represent those that form 51 percent of Mexico’s population.
