Femicides in Mexico increase as police turn a blind eye (TRT World)

Female activists want Ecatepec Mayor Indalecio Ríos Velázquez to resign due to the increase of femicides in the district, which numbered at 15 in the first semester of 2017.

“Femicides are out of control and everyday on the rise, since an alert was established in 2015 and to the date (July 31), there have been approximately 493 femicides in the State of Mexico,” said the activists.

Activists also want State of Mexico Governor Eruviel Ávila Villegas to justify the allocation of resources intended towards the fight against crimes towards women.

“The governor should be held accountable and explain the measures he has taken since an alert was established. What we’re seeing is an absolute negligence by the governor, who has used practically nothing of the 7 billion pesos ($392.7 billion) which were meant to be allocated towards fighting femicide in the state,” said the activists.
