Meet the candidates who made history on election night (PBS NewsHour)

American citizens throughout Mexico have been celebrating a sweeping victory for Democratic Party candidates in state and local elections across the United States this week. These victories are not only a reaction to President Donald Trump’s deeply unpopular policies, but also an endorsement of Democratic initiatives that focus on common sense solutions that benefit all Americans - not just the 1%.

In addition to winning the governor-ships of New Jersey and Virginia, Democratic candidates swept dozens of state legislative seats and mayor-ships from coast to coast, including New York City and Boston.

To coincide with the elections, the leadership of Democrats Abroad Mexico, the official representation of the Democratic Party in Mexico, met to plan a strategy to extend these victories into 2018. Larry Pihl (Chair), Adrian Smith (Vice-Chair), Sam Stone (Secretary), Tim Whiting (Member-at-Large, GOTV), and Dee Dee Camhi (Outreach Chair) traveled from various parts of Mexico to meet along the shores of Lake Chapala, while Julie Juliano (Member-at-Large, GOTV) joined by phone.

Among other policies, a get out the vote strategy was decided in order to reach more of the 1 million plus American citizens living in Mexico. All seven existing Democrats Abroad Mexico chapters across the country will participate, and outreach will be extended to new regions, including the border cities of Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez.
