TIJUANA - The most recent National Addiction Survey gave first place to Tijuana in the consumption of hard drugs, many of which are just becomming known, as each month a new sustance is created in clandestine laboratories, said expert Manuel Molina Bellini.
"Above all is heroin, which is not as serious in any other part of the other Mexican states where cocaine is frequently at the forefront in Monterrey and Mexico City, even marijuana", he said.
According to the survey, 10 percent of the border population is addicted, where there is a confluence of deportees and migrants and in a vulnerable state; young people and children and many more.
"Let's think about 200,000 [addicts], and so when we speak of legalizing drugs we will have to confront the reality, even without legalizing drugs we do not have the infrastructure to care for 10 percent of our population, which could be 200,000 people who need some type of attention," he said.
