DIF Creates Domestic Violence Network with Quintana Roo Women's Institute The News

Family Development Agency (DIF) President Mariana Zorrilla de Borge signed an agreement on this week with the Quintana Roo Women’s Institute (IQM) to establish a network for the prevention of violence against women and to launch the Support for Women’s Organizations program (PAIMEF) in Quintana Roo.

The agreement seeks to promote collaboration between the public and institutions as well as improve awareness about services for victims of violence against women.

Zorrilla de Borge said that women make up 49.2 percent of Mexico’s population, and that their participation in the public sphere is important for the state’s progress.

She said that the network and the PAIMEF are examples of how the state is encouraging a culture of respect for women and their role in society.

The DIF president went on to say that coordinated efforts with her husband, Governor Roberto Borge Angulo, has created public policy that ensures social justice.

The Quintana Roo DIF and IQM joined forces to improve the well-being of residents and to prevent violence against women, a problem that Zorrilla de Borge said should concern everyone.

Zorrilla de Borge said that the network will bring together the services of the DIF, IQM, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), the Secretariats of Health (SSA), Education (SEP) and Public Safety (SSP), and civic organizations and community leaders.
