Marti Batres: National Regeneration Movement to Register as Political Party Prensa Latina

The National Regeneration Movement (Morena) began registration procedures yesterday as a political party at the Electoral Federal Institute, an action announced by head of the National Executive Committee Marti Batres.

From his Twitter account, Andrés López Obrador, driving force of Morena, disclosed he would be present at the Institute to join the new party, which is to his mind the hope of Mexico, and welcomed all the population to join him.

The fact that Morena is registered as a party will allow it to appear in electoral ballots, it will not depend on alliances with other political forces and will have its own space, noted Marti.

Morena has a political proposal, an identity and its own characteristics and has the right to participate in the electoral race of the country, Marti pointed out.

Marti disclosed the registration process is long. In 2013, the 32 assemblies with a participation of 3,000 members in each must take place, according to the Movement.

On the other hand, Lopez Obrador is expected to visit, starting January10, the 300 largest municipalities of the country beginning by Chetumal and Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

Lopez Obrador was the leader of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD-Left), from which he separated after losing the June 2012 elections to his rival Enrique Peña Nieto, who represented the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
