Mastretta MXT. Wear it. (MastrettaCarsMX)
The Autosport International Racing Car Show will be having the latest version of Mexico’s sole sports car, the MXT-R making its first official debut. The Autosport International Racing Car Show is going to take place in Birmingham on January 10. The Mexican sports car is still a daily basis sports car and designed to sit between the current road car and upcoming track-only MXR. It will have a common appearance but will come equipped with an aerodynamic body kit which includes a front splitter and larger rear wing.
It sounds like a minor change, but engineers apparently wanted to preserve the model’s image as an everyday sports car. The car is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that develops 285 bhp (212 kW). For comparison, the standard MXT has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Duratec engine with 250 bhp (186 kW) and 250 lb-ft (339 Nm) of torque. Other than the engine and body kit, the MXT-R is identical to the standard MXT in terms of suspension, brakes and interior.
Mastretta is not working yet. It intends to introduce an even more powerful model called the MXR later in the year that will only be legal for track use. At present there is no word on performance figures or prices, but customers can register an interest with Mastretta to be kept informed of updates. Further information will be let out with the start of the Autosport International Racing Car Show, which is scheduled to be on the 10th of January 2013.
