Women heads of household, you are not alone, the president has pledged to help you and assist you in making progress. (Presidency of the Republic)

I was delighted to return to Atitanac in Villanueva, Zacatecas last week. Here, a few months ago, its women inspired me to expand pensions to senior citizens and to lower the age for beneficiaries of the 70 and Over Program to 65.

In Atitanac, I greeted all the women, women of character, female heads of household, working women determined to give their children the best. Female heads of household who are an example of hard work: In their homes they make tortillas, cheese, food, vegetables, crafts and household goods and do sewing, which they subsequently sell.

This is the everyday reality in many parts of Mexico, where there are nearly seven million female-headed households.

That is why I announced the creation of Life Insurance for Female Heads of Family. This will give them the peace of mind of knowing that in the event of their deaths, their children will have the support of the state to continue studying and preparing for life.

Thanks to the sensitivity and joint responsibility of the delegates, the Federal Expenditure Budget 2013 includes 400 million pesos for this program.

I will work to ensure that female heads of household have the government’s support for enabling their families to progress.
