In 2011 the state of Guanajuato hired 36 Mexican mummies to a U.S. private company and since then they have not even paid the loan or returned mummies, local government claims today.
The contract expired on December 30 and both the amount of more than US$ 1.02 million to be receive by the mayor, and the return of the pieces to the museum, are conspicuous by their absence.
The agreement was made with the Firma Corporativa, owned by Andrés Manuel Hernandez from Yucatan, for the mummies to be exhibited in the United States, in cities such as Detroit, Chicago, Austin and Dallas.
The mayor of Guanajuato, Fernando Gutierrez, acknowledged that the civil claim process has been slow and considered it as the most important to recover the mummies, property of the citizens of the state and the nation.
The then councilor and now PRI local deputy, Erika Arroyo, stresses the absence of problems, but time passes and the mummies do not return, which worries Gutierrez.
The local group Imagen Multimedia published the case in November for the 36 mummies to be returned to the mythical Guanajuato's Mummy Museum.
