Hunucma, Yucatan, Mexico (sterisktom)

The Mayor of Hunucma, Delio Tzab Perez announced last week that one of the priorities of his administration is to transform the port of Sisal into a major beach destination for the state. He announced the beginnings of a design and work project for the port.

In an interview the Mayor mentioned that the project includes the implementation of concrete to the harbor entrance and to the dock area.

The city will also focus on rescuing and rehabilitating the lighthouse, church, the Main Park and facades of the historical buildings. They will also strategically improve the image of Sisal by installing underground wiring to increase the tourism potential.

“The port is visited by foreigners, but we believe that if we invest in improving the image, we could attract more tourism attractions and new investments to this region that also forms a part of Hunucma.” The mayor stated.

He said that currently they do not have a definite amount of how much the work will cost to transform the image of the port. However, they are expecting a cost of several million pesos, so it will be necessary to seek support through various development programs through both state and federal resources.

“First we must define what it will cost to do the work, then we will see how many resources we can proved and then we will see what state and federal programs could get additional support to accomplish this project.” He said.

Sisal is located 53 kilometers northwest of Merida, the capital of Yucatan.
