President Enrique Peña Nieto (Presidency of the Republic)
The government is making significant progress in human rights; a key measure was the transition to a new State Policy for Security and Justice for Mexicans.
The purpose is to align the security and justice agenda with the agenda of human rights, as a result of which President Enrique Peña Nieto ordered the following:
• Implement a National Human Rights Program, to strengthen the areas of government in this area and establish a federal organization to follow up on the implementation of Human Rights Reform.
• Develop protocols for security forces across the country.
• Purge and restructure the National Institute of Migration, to ensure respect for the rights of migrants from sister nations and strengthen homeland security.
• Implement a public missing persons policy that will include databases with genetic information, search protocols and specialized task forces.
In addition, the Interior Secretariat is already working to establish the Comprehensive Program to Prevent, Treat, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women, and to ensure the rights of people with disabilities.
