Key projects for the present Mexican administration in the maritime port sector will have an investment of $783.1 million, which will be used to improve and build new infrastructure in six Mexican ports.
The Coordinator of Ports and Merchant Marine of the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT), Alejandro Chacón, stressed that it is necessary to invest in strategic sectors, with the saturation recorded in some port terminals.
“What we have seen is that Mexico has a strong potential, such as in the oil and automobile sectors, so we must have the infrastructure ready to serve and properly handle the containers,” he said.
Participating in the “XII Exporail” event in Mexico, the official announced that the investments will begin with the modernization of the port of Guaymas, with an investment of $567 million, with the demand for some companies to move their cargoes through this port.
He also mentioned the construction of a passenger port terminal in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, with an investment of $54.8 million, because “there is not a terminal according to the demand we have and especially if cruise lines want to turn around there, using it as a home port.”
Also modernized would be the ports of Ciudad del Carmen, with an investment of $13 million and Seybaplaya with $28.5 million).
Similarly, Chacón stressed that the government seeks to consolidate the development and operation of the port of Matamoros, which will require a capital injection of $100 million to address exploitation and exploration of oil and mineral reserves.
