The director of the board CULTUR, Enrique Magadan Villamil announced the relocation of artisans and merchants who are inside the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, who have refused to retire from the site for many years.

In an interview on March 3, Enrique Magadan  declared that there are a growing number of complaints from domestic and foreign tourism for harassment and pressure by the merchants and craftsmen inside Chichén Itzá.

“That brings a bad image to the state, because visitors feel forced to buy because of the harassment they receive from the craftsmen, this is the base of the complaints, we have to take urgent action.”

Artisans and merchants of the association “Nueva Kukulcan”, warned CULTUR that they will not move their sale stands in Chichen Itza, and they will defend their spaces even by force, stressed its president, Juan Pablo Euan Cen.

In this regard, Cen Euan explained that they will not move out of the site that they have worked in for many years. He also clarified that the association has had contact with a representative of the Board CULTUR in the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, and he has not said anything about relocation to another site.
