ZINACANTÁN, Chiapas - As he led the event to mark the start of the Crusade against Hunger Actions, President Enrique Pena Nieto declared that, “Ending hunger is and will remain the permanent priority of the government.”
He stressed that for his government to reverse the scenarios of poverty, social backwardness, and most poignantly, the hunger that millions of Mexicans suffer, “Is not only a priority but is the most important reason for government work.”
This is a government that wants to change that condition, he added, “and achieve an inclusive Mexico with opportunities for all Mexicans.” For my government, he emphasized, “It is a matter of the highest priority to deal with the issue that ethically and morally, should be the priority of any policy: working for those most in need.”
At the event, former President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a guest of honor at the start of the actions of the Crusade, stated that he is in Chiapas to testify that it is possible to end hunger, “In Brazil I did and I’m sure you will do so in Mexico, this extraordinary country with its extraordinary history, this country that is the cradle of the world’s leading civilization.”
