The Conservatory of Mexican Gastronomic Culture has asked the National Crusade Against Hunger to promote the traditional diet of the country, because the problems of obesity and diabetes from which the population now suffers are derived from the change in food intake, including excess sugars and junk food.
Participating in the Civil Society Organizations fair, organized by the National Institute of Social Development (Indesol), Gloria López Morales, president of the conservatory, and other members of the group said that it is paradoxical that UNESCO has categorized Mexican food as a heritage of mankind, while the country may be the champion of diabetes. They explained that this is due to transculturization and loss of identity in Mexico's food culture.
