The “polleros” established in southern Yucatan charge 70,000 pesos per person plus traveling expenses to cross the northern border to enter the United States illegally, revealed the undersecretary of INDEMAYA Ángel Basto Blanco.

“One person can spend easily 150,000 pesos to achieve the American dream, with this amount of money that person could establish a business in this community,” said Basto Blanco.

The majority of Yucatecan migrants are men between 18 to 24 years of age, mostly from Akil, Mani, Muna, Oxkutzcab, Peto and Tekax. The under secretary discarded a trafficking network, because the yucatecan Pollero uses his own experience to cross the border.
