Mexico wants to be recognised as a high-tech nation competing against countries like China and India with manufacturing jobs and foreign investment. Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin reports from Mexico City. (AlJazeeraEnglish)
The implementation of the digital television broadcasting in Mexico begins by the northern city of Tijuana, in Baja California, and it is expected to be completed on December 31st, 2015.
The institutions in charge of the actions assure that everything is ready for the beginning of the so-called analogue shutdown in that territory and estimate a 93 percent of digital television's penetration in homes.
They stated that people were given a decoder and the required antenna to receive the digital television signal, but they may also purchase them at markets.
The business institutions and the government work jointly to issue the Official Mexican Standard (NOM) 192 to assure the continuity of the TV services after receiving the signal of the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB).
