Xi Jinping, President of China, begins a two-day official visit here today, invited by his Mexican counterpart, Enrique Peña Nieto, a meeting considered here to be an important commercial opportunity.

Peña Nieto will officially welcome Xi with a military ceremony at the Campo Marte and then the two leaders will begin talks at the official Los Pinos residence.

This second meeting between the two chiefs of state, preceded by the visit of Peña Nieto to Beijing last April, is expected to result in nearly a dozen agreements on trade, education, science and infrastructure.

The agenda includes a meeting with several legislators to talk about relevant aspects of the relationship between the two countries, as well as an exchange between entrepreneurs of both countries.

Mexican Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade referred to the need to find a balance in the trade between the two countries, which to date favors China in terms of trade volume, along with ensuring greater diversification in relations in areas such as tourism, education and culture.
