MEXICO CITY - Mexican upstart airline Volaris has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Mexican regulator to raise up to $400 million via a global initial public offering.

The offering will be a dual-listing, with American depositary shares on the New York Stock Exchange to trade under the ticker symbol VLRS and shares in Mexico as VOLAR. Each ADS in the U.S. will represent 10 local shares in Mexico. Up to $100 million is expected to be placed in the U.S.

A person close to the offering said the deal could price later in June. "Now is definitely the right time" for Volaris to come to market, the person said, citing the strength of the Mexican economy and global investor interest in Mexican assets.
