Buddhism is new to Catholic-dominated Mexico, but there are reports that the bloody drug war has prompted some to join the ranks to share Buddha’s philosophy of peace and enlightenment.
“There is another way of living, another way of reacting to problems, to the situation, that doesn’t need to be violence, you know? Our weapons are compassion, wisdom,” commented a local Buddhist.
Marco Antonio Karam founded Mexico’s “Casa Tibet” and has helped bring relics from Tibet, China and India, which he says is a testament to how far Tibetan Buddhism has spread during the last millenium.
