MEXICO CITY – President Enrique Peña Nieto, speaking this week at the General Assembly of the Business Coordination Council (CCE), said he plans to promote a new political reform that will make government more efficient and strengthen citizen’s influence on Mexico’s political system.
Peña Nieto said that this package of reform proposals will include debates on reelection for legislators, coalition governments and a change to Mexico City’s political status. He added that citizen participation can be promoted through procedures provided for in the Constitution through a reform of electoral laws allowing for non-party candidates and popular initiatives.
