Six months into the presidency of Enrique Peña Nieto, the poet and activist Javier Sicilia demanded action by the president to counter the disappearances and abductions in the country. Sicilia claimed that the war begun by President Felipe Calderón against organized crime continues and is worsening.
“Enrique Peña Nieto, where are our missing people and justice for our dead? 6 months, 0 results,” reads a banner directed to the president by the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity.
Close to eleven o’clock in the morning, dozens of demonstrators and representatives from the Movement arrived at the door of the National Palace.
Javier Sicilia, whose son was murdered in Cuernavaca in March 2011, claimed that the 2012 elections were the “elections of disgrace”. He criticized all of the candidates and reiterated his demands to the Presidency of the Republic.
