Tijuana – For many adolescent Tijuanans, belonging to the youth police means having a second chance in life. Most of them are sent by their parents or teachers, accused of showing behavioral problems that the teachers and parents did not know how to handle.
Miguel Angel Brito entered the program at the age on 16 on an order from his high school. “I had many problems, but here I found a unique way of becoming familiar with other people who don't laugh at what you are doing,” he said with sincerity.
The association offers these young people a list of training alternatives, such as personal defense, tae-kwon-do, rappelling, first aid, military training, acrobatic lessons, and lectures which seek to promote a culture of lawful behavior and respect for authority.
