At Colectika Ancestral Contemporary Art Gallery in Puerto Vallarta, we are proud to announce our 2013 season's line-up of talent with special exhibitions on January 30, February 6 and February 27.

Julia Fuentes and J. Juan Melchor

On the 30th of January, Julia Fuentes and her husband J. Juan Melchor from San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca, will be back to demonstrate the traditional Oaxacan wood carving.

Julia, a graduate from the Bellas Artes, Oaxacan campus will also be showing a select number of her acrylic paintings.

Julia will demonstrate her unique painting technique while J. Juan shows us how the traditional copal wood is carved into the fantastic animal figures we have all come to know and love.

Julia and J. Juan will be available to answer all your questions and demonstrate why they are two of the most sought after artists in Oaxaca today.

Juan Chawuk

On February 6, Colectika will be having a fantastic show of Juan Chawuk's most recent paintings.

Most recently he has done an installation for the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, two murals for schools in Chicago, and Kansas.

Last July he did a show in Belgium, and in October did a mural with Nicolas de Jesus for the University of Chicago.

Carlos Tortolero, the founder/director of the National Museum of Art if Chicago will be at the gallery from 6:00 until 10:00 pm to curate this special showing of Juan's paintings.

Juan is originally from Las Margaritas, Chiapas. Ideas appear unbeholden to topic or established styles.

Chawuk's journey in the arts is visionary, it is complex and arduous.

He himself flees from the comfortable ease of a trend or label. He leaps into risk. He neither self-excludes nor indulges himself in vanity art.

Jacobo and Maria Angeles

On February 27, Colectika is proud to present Jacobo and Maria Angeles, who will be at the gallery with their unique and traditional wood carvings.

Inspired by the traditional Zapotec codices that covered pyramids like Monte Alban, their pieces are covered in an intricate myriad of symbols that tell a story.

Jacobo and Maria's work is shown in Museums and galleries around the world including the Smithsonian Native American Museum, and is probably the most sought after by collectors around the world today.

Come and see two of the most collected artists from Oaxaca demonstrate their wood carving and how they create the natural paints that make their pieces even more sought after by collectors.

Jacobo and Maria will also be in the gallery on February 27 from 12:00 until 8:00 pm to answer any questions about their work.

All showings are part of the traditional Wednesday night Art Walk, and a cocktail reception will be held from 6:00 until 10:00 pm.

Colectika Ancestral Contemporary Art Gallery is located in Downtown Vallarta at 858 G. Sanchez, corner of Allende. For more information, telephone Kevin at (322) 222-2302 or email him at peyotepeople@yahoo.com.
