Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser to Benefit the Youth of Banderas Bay

Dennis Rike - Banderas Bay American Legion Post #14
March 5, 2013

Save the date of Saturday, March 30, as the American Legion Post 14 and Navy League of Puerto Vallarta team up with El Rio Bar & Grill for this chili cook-off fundraiser to benefit four of our Banderas Bay charities.

The four well-deserving organizations chosen all revolve around our youth in the Puerto Vallarta area:

Proyecto Pitillal, Busca un Amigo AC, a non-profit child care and rehabilitation facility that provides underprivileged children afflicted by cerebral palsy with free rehabilitation, medical services, nutritious diets, and special care. Located in Pitillal.

Corazón de Niña, provides a safe home for girls who have suffered profound abuse and neglect that have been removed from their family homes. Rather than housing girls in an institutional setting, Corazon de Nina provides a real home with house parents. Counseling, education and long-term support are priorities of the home. It is the only home for girls over the age of 12 in Puerto Vallarta.

Toys for Tots is our Navy League program where we have distributed over 100,000 toys to local boys and girls.

ComRail / Adopt a School improves facilities and equipment of the civil of public social associations, schools and public areas of community recreation. When a US military ship arrives in port, the crew goes out on a COMRAIL (work party). There are times when the facility does not have funds for paint and other supplies needed and the Navy League of Puerto Vallarta must supply those items. In addition, we have installed nine playgrounds in the past 2 years.

The Navy League also assists and donates medical, orthopedic and diagnostic implements and equipment to nonprofit social welfare associations and medical institutions to benefit the most vulnerable inhabitants of the region. Ships from San Diego bring surplus supplies listed above.

Carrol, Daniela, Dennis2, Jim & Dennis1 selling tickets at the Old Town Farmers Market. It was a good day and special thanks to Daniela Sanchez Farmer's Market Coordinator and Charlotte Market Manager. The Trophies are shown for the Peoples Choice Award and the larger one for the Professional Judges Trophy.

There will be over 10 types of chili available for tasting and your donation ticket of only 200 pesos includes all the chili and riblets you can eat plus agua fresca.

The chili tasting will begin at 1:30 pm and the winners will be announced at 4:00 pm for the First, Second and Third place trophies, judged by attendees at the event.

Mariachis will perform from 1:00 until 3:00 pm, followed by the Nacho Daddy Band, Corazon de Nina girls singing and ending with Mikki Prost

The 69ers Moto Club & Piratas M.C.(Harley Davidson Riders) will be there with over 20 motorcycles on display and a opportunity to have your picture taken on your favorite bike.

Names of Professional judges: Nacho Cadena, Owner Le Leche Restaurant and President of PV Hotel Association; Gary Beck, Food Critic & Writer; Fred Ruiz, Executive Chef, CasaMagna Marriott Hotel.

We thank our Event Sponsors: 69ers Moto Club of Vallarta; Abuelinda's Cuisine; American Legion; Captains Don's; El Torito; Lori's La Escondida; Los Arroyos Verdes; Mauricio's Sea Food Restaurant; Murphy's Irish Pub; Navy League; Nacho Daddy's; Outback; Piratas MC - Harley Davidson Riders; Que?Pasa Olas Altas 443; Rosappetit Pizza; Steve's Sports Bar; and Coastal Smokers.

The set-up will be between 12:00 and 1:00. Sponsors will receive free admission plus one server - and the winning trophies for the top three chili dishes.

We hope you will join the fun either as a "taster" or a sponsor and also enjoy the mariachi and other live music beginning at 1:00 pm.

El Rio Bar & Grill is located in Paso Ancho, just east of downtown Puerto Vallarta. Take the 04 Blue Bus from Old Town to Paso Ancho, or visit El Rio Bar for a detailed map.
