If you are in Puerto Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit for the summer season, we could sure use your help at our Bucerias Bilingual Community Center for our upcoming Summer School.

We are just getting an idea this week of how many kids and what sort of program we would want to do as it is a couple of years since we last held one.

One item we all agreed on was the need to re-introduce the swimming lessons which were typically on the last day of the week of summer school, so assume Friday, for an hour and a half. I am working on a location in Bucerias to let us have free use of their large pool and will be putting some ideas on paper.

We are currently giving the BBCC a well-overdue face lift and it will look a lot fresher than before, with a new team of volunteers returning in the season. I do however work there full time now and will definitely need support for the Summer School. Getting the kids won't be too hard, getting the volunteers is the challenge.

The suggested dates for the Summer School would be July 15-26, 2013. In addition to the swimming lessons we did a couple of years ago, we'd like to introduce a new Clay Sculpture Class given by our local treasure LARKIN who has already agreed to come for a couple of hours each week.

We have also amassed material that we had in our archives which may prove useful for shaping handicraft and music classes, as well as learning English and more conventional academic subjects, all of which depends on the volunteers.

We have a local man who would love to do a puppet show which could be a useful Drama Class tool, and there is a Mexican lady that may very well be happy to offer a class in dance and artistic expression one or two hours a week. In both the latter cases, the teachers are bilingual.

The tentative schedule for the Summer School would be for the volunteers to arrive by 9:45 am with classes beginning promptly at 10:00. There will be a break for fruit/snack at 11:30 with the classes ending at 1:30 pm, so the staff and volunteers can expect to be able to leave by 2:00.

The price per child would be in the region of 300 pesos per week with a minimum registration for two weeks with no refunds. The age group suggested is 8 to 12 years old, which is flexible.

The Swimming Class would be held locally and a bus/transport will be organized for all teachers and kids. Pick up and drop off will be the BBCC.

We would love to have your input and planning help in getting this important Summer School organized and hope you can help by volunteering some time or sharing your talents with our local children.

If you are not here in the summer months to volunteer, donations are always welcome. Why not sponsor a child for this great Summer School experience of fun and learning?
