14th International Film Festival Returns to Puerto Vallarta Team Angels - PVAngels

After a five year hibernation, the 14th International Film Festival (FICPV) will return to Puerto Vallarta on March 26 through April 4 at University of Guadalajara Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta).

Admission is free for the Film Fest and will include a sampling of short films, screenings of renowned international directors, and the presentation of "Huston" given by Irish scenario writer Jim Sheridan.

Jim Sheridan is an actor, director, producer and screenwriter of Irish cinema, born February 6, 1949. Sheridan began his career in the theater as one of the founders of Project Art Centre, Dublin. His early years were spent in theatrical productions, including the critically acclaimed "The Good Soldier Svejk and his Fortunes in the World War," based on the novel by Jaroslev Hasek.

In the early 80s, Sheridan went to America with his wife and two daughters, with the intention to enter the world of Broadway, but it wasn't until 1989 when he made the leap to film directing, with "My Left Foot." This film, apart from being a blockbuster, Sheridan served to boost the revival of Irish cinema. "My Left Foot" earned five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, and won Oscars for Best Leading Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Supporting Actress (Brenda Fricker).

The screening of "In the Name of the Father" will kick off the Film Fest on Wednesday, March 26, in the Juan Luis Cifuentes Auditorium on the CUCosta campus.

The Best of Puerto Vallarta Maguey Prize will be presented for its third year, which seeks to promote and recognize the cinema that disseminates innovative vision, embracing sexual diversity as a form of natural love, to enrich the collective imagination divergent that breaks paradigms and expands towards new horizons, where the non-discrimination is a palpable reality for all regardless of sexual orientation.

Puerto Vallarta opens its doors this time and seeks to enrich the local art scene with a small sample of what the Maguey Prize entails with international personalities who serve as spokespersons in the world of sexual diversity.

Bruce LaBruce is one of the guests that will form the Maguey presentations, who with his controversial artistic work has achieved international recognition awards. During his stay in Puerto Vallarta, besides presenting screenings of "Gerontophilia" and "Pierrot Lunaire," he will preside at a talk at CUCosta entitled "The Transgression of the Established" in his photographic exhibition "Obscenity," one of the most transgressive that before now has only been exhibited in Madrid, Spain.

"Obscenity" offers a variety of images - some gentle, some romantic, some spiritual and some grotesque, which attempts to redefine the nature of the fetish and taboo. The lives of the saints are full of ecstatic acts and sublimated sexuality that are expressed in the most perverse and sexual forms. "Obscenity" presents a series of portraits illustrating this divine convergence between the sacred and the profane.

Another of the guests is Wieland Speck, Maguey awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his tireless work on behalf of cinematic sexual diversity and founder of the Teddy Award, a key part of the Berlinale since 1992. All sections of the official program compete for the award, which certainly is proof of the prestige and importance of it in the film industry at the international level.
 
Jürgen Brüning, Director of the Berlin Porn Film Festival, closes the group of invited guests, who curated this year's offerings of the Maguey Award porn movies shown at the Berlin festival and will join Bruce LaBruce during his talk.

The Film Fest will close on April 4 at the Mantamar Beach Club in Old Town Vallarta with a screening of the winner of the Maguey Prize.
