Calling all sailing enthusiasts! OptiNAM is the North American Championship for Opti sailors.

Beginning with its inaugural event in February 2006, the WesMex Regatta has earned the reputation of the premier small boat regatta of Banderas Bay. It is one of the most important youth sailing events of the year in all of Mexico and is one of two “Signature Regattas” of the Vallarta Yacht Club.

OptiNAM 2014 Championship officially begins from Wednesday, July 9 until Wednesday, July 16.

175 competitors from 19 countries including Japan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand will begin the measurement process for their boats and sails. They will then compete for 6 days on the water to determine the North American Champion for Opti Class.

The opening ceremony will take place on July 9 followed by the Team Leaders' Meeting, Registration & Measurement, and Practice Races.

On July 16, awards will be presented to the top competitors.

At Vallarta Yacht Club, we can expect to start seeing early arrivals around the 1st of July for the Opti North American 2014 Championship.

Competitors, Team Leaders and Country Representatives will be arriving early to settle in and become familiar with the venue. This is a very exciting time for these young sailors and many of them may feel anxious about being thousands of miles from home.
