Luna Rumba 'Volare' - The Palm Cabaret and Bar (AERIXX3)

Luna Rumba is a fusion of Gypsy, Latin, Celtic, Flamenco, Middle Eastern and Rock, all spiced up with hot Rumba and Cuban rhythms. From beautiful, romantic ballads to fiery dance pulsations, the group will delight a diverse audience with its infectious sounds and rhythms.

Their music has been judged “world class” in international songwriting competitions. Last year, a song that Cheko wrote won finalist in the World Music Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. This was literally out of thousands of entrants. Another song off the CD entitled “Espiritu Amor”, written by Geo, was awarded “Honorable Mention” in the USA International Songwriting Contest–number two in the world in the instrumental category! Their first CD – entitled “Sin Fronteras” was just awarded the Vox Populi (People’s Choice) winner in the Latin music category of the world-wide Independent Music Awards.

The story of Luna Rumba started 3 years ago in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Geo Uhrich met Cheko Ruiz playing in a bar there. The two began to play music together and it seemed to have a magic quality – even though Geo didn't speak Spanish and Cheko didn't speak English, they were able to “finish each other’s musical sentences” and create music together. The two had to part ways after playing for the Zihua International Guitar Festival, but not before they vowed to play together again some day. In October of 2012, the two met in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to begin work on songs to record for the CD. With the help of Chas Eller (Charles Eller Studios LLC) they began to record the songs for the CD and rehearse a band to play live gigs. The goal of Luna Rumba is to bring people of different cultures together through music.

Cheko began his music career at age 15. As a young man, Cheko was interested in a wide variety of Latin music and sounds. He was born in Mexico City and has performed in concerts all over Mexico. He is an accomplished vocalist, composer, arranger and rhythm guitarist. He has been recognized internationally for his songwriting and composing skills with a awards for finalist (2013) in the World Music category of the John Lennon International Songwriting contest and the USA International Songwriting Competition for co-writing a song with Geo that won 2nd place and Honorable Mention for best instrumentals song (2014). As the musical director in Luna Rumba, he is the “soul” of the band. “I travel all over Mexico with my guitar, songs and music. Being a songwriter since I was 12 years old, has been the joy of my life. I love all kinds of music, rumba, salsa, rock, hip hop and mariachi. I want to see the world through my music. Luna Rumba is my dream come true, I am very proud to be part of this wonderful project.”

Geo is an inspiring, accomplished musician who co-founded the band Luna Rumba in which he plays nylon and electric guitars and 5 string violin. Starting at the young age of 6, Geo captured audiences playing the violin and winning numerous talent contests, awards and honors. His music performances continued when he picked up a guitar at age 14, playing in local rock bands up until the 80’s when he put music on the back shelf to pursue a business career and raise a family. After retiring from a successful business career, Geo went back to his true passion, music. While traveling abroad he found inspiration in Mexico. Latin music had always been an interest, but now Geo was able to live and perform with the talented musicians of Mexico, opening a well of creativity for Spanish, Cuban and Flamenco styles of music.Geo believes that music is the language of the soul and can transport us for a while into another world – a world where feelings and emotions touch and nourish us at a deeper level of consciousness.“I believe that music has the power to heal and bring people together.”
