Featured Feline: Dulcie

Like last month’s Featured Feline ”Lady,” this young female was found roaming around Plaza Marina.

Since we have an Adoption Booth there every Friday, we are naturally the ones they end up with!

Fortunately, Dulcie is as sweet as her name and will make a great companion kitty when she finds her Forever Home.

If you are interested in adopting her or another PuRR cat, contact us at adopt@purrproject.com or visit our website for more information.

All cats up for adoption have been tested, vaccinated and spayed or neutered.

Adoption Update: Antonia

We love it when we hear good news about our kitties who have found their Forever Homes!

Antonia was a tiny kitten when she was found in January by Layla Adams on a street in Bucerias.

She was seriously malnourished and unable to use her back leg.

Our vet determined it was not broken but she needed special therapy and nutritious kitten food.

After time in our clinic and with a loving foster mom, Antonia was reunited with Layla, who reports that she is doing great and has lots of energy!

Meow!

Finally at home in New York!

Lady’s Journey (and adventure in the PV airport!)

Last month our Featured Feline was Lady, an older female who had been abandoned in the Marina and rescued after attacked by dogs. Purr volunteer Eric Grossmann thought she might be just the perfect cat for his sister back on Long Island, New York. Marjorie had recently lost her beloved gray and white cat and agreed that Lady might indeed be a good fit.

The problem of getting her to New York was solved when volunteer Shannon Campbell, who now resides in Manhattan, decided to visit her old PuRR friends in Vallarta and agreed to take Lady back with her.

Anyone who has transported animals as “carry-on” knows you have to take them out and walk them through security while the carrier goes through the X-ray machine.

Lady took everyone by surprise and escaped at this point….fortunately running back towards the volunteers waiting to make sure all went well!!

It was a crazy scene for a bit but she was soon back in her carrier. To avoid another mishap, security guards escorted Shannon & Lady into a private room to wait while the carrier itself was quickly put through the screener and they were soon on their way.

Fortunately, the security checkpoint in Dallas went much smoother.

Marjorie and son Kyle met the flight at the Newark airport and after a long day, Lady was happy to reach her Furr-ever Home where she has already become a cherished family member.

Adios, Lady, and a HUGE thanks to Shannon!!!!!

Shelter Update

Work has begun on the new Rain Shelter for the many cats who live free on the fenced-in property.

A sidewalk from the nursery to the shelter is already finished.

Limbs from a large overhanging tree are being cut back this week before the roof is installed.

Thanks again to Lee & Heidi Mathias for their generous contribution and all the others who have added to the fund. (We all know how cats hate to get wet!!!!) We will be ready for the summer’s torrential rains.

Future Fundraising Events

We said “Goodbye” to Kitty BINGO with our last fundraising event of this season on April 8th at the Margarita Grill.

Thanks to all of you who supported us there and at the Palm with Adult Bingo.

We will definitely be back in the Fall with more BINGO as well as other fun events like the Luau and Fashion Show plus tours of the PuRR Project shelter…..a real Mexican adventure! So stay tuned for details in coming newsletters.
