The use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs can affect anyone regardless of sex, age or socio-economic and cultural status. Substance dependence is a disease that affects society as a whole and not only to those who suffer from it, but also families and society in general.

Therefore, the Juvenile Integration Centers (CIJ) of Mexico promotes healthy lifestyle activities.

In that context and as part of the commemorative of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26) the Juvenile Integration Centers carry out the Race Against Addictions to be held this year on Sunday, June 28 at 8:00 am simultaneously in 55 cities in the 32 States of the country.

It is expected that 40,000 runners nationwide will participate. In addition to runs and walks, other competitions will take place including marathons, cyclist events, athletic events for children and events with people of different abilities.

Also, an estimated attendance of an additional 20 thousand people are expected to attend health fairs, workshops and informational and recreational activities for the whole family, which will be held simultaneously to the race in order to promote healthy lifestyles, contribute to the rehabilitation and social reintegration of drug users, as well as to disseminate prevention and treatment services.

In Puerto Vallarta, the Sports Meeting will begin at 8:00 in the morning at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Arena (across from the Sheraton) and is carried out in coordination with the Municipal Council of Sports.

The 5 km Race for Men and Women will have the following categories: Youth (15-19 years), Free (20-39 years), Masters (40-49 years), Veterans (50-59 years) and Youth Accumulated (60 years onwards); the recreational walk directed to the public of any age, will have a distance of 2 km.
