Featured Feline: Pepper

Need a little Pepper to spice up your life?

This adorable Tuxedo was one of a number of cats in his Nuevo Vallarta neighborhood that John Culpepper fed regularly and then had spayed and released.

When he had to leave town, PuRR agreed to take “Pepper” (like salt & pepper) because she was under a year old and people-friendly.

Unfortunately, she has to compete with a whole nursery full of adorable little kitties that also need homes!

If you are interested in giving Pepper or one of our older kitties a Forever Home, contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com for more information.

Upcoming Events

Even puppies love Kitty Bingo!

Our first fundraiser of the coming season will be another GARAGE SALE in the Marina on Saturday/Sunday, November 8 & 9. PuRR volunteers have already collected lots of goodies but we can always use more! If you are ready to clean out your closets & bodegas, we’ll be happy to accept your slightly used treasures. Contact Linda at info@purrproject.com or Marilyn at exkhan@usfamily.net for details on how to donate.

KITTY BINGO will begin on Wednesday, November 18 and every other Wednesday through the season. We will once again be at the Margarita Grill in Old Town, where there is ample parking nearby and the food and drinks are PuRR-fect! And of course we will throw in a few ADULT BINGO sessions at The Palm with some great entertainment lined up!! Stay tuned for details and dates.

We are also working on dates for our annual Fashion Show, Luau, Sunset Cocktail Party and a really fun Mardi Gras Party in February. We hope you can join us for one or all of these fun events and help us raise money to fund the shelter for the next year!

Stevie Nicks’ Journey

Karen and Stevie at the airport…..adios!!

It was almost one year ago that this female tabby was spotted wandering around Plaza Marina for several days. She had obviously had a home at some point as she was seeking out two-legged companionship (and turns out had been spayed)……was she just lost or had she been abandoned? We will never know. But thanks to our Friday adoption crew at the Plaza, she was soon rescued!

She was immediately named “Stevie Nicks” (volunteer Marilyn’s favorite female singer). After testing negative for FIV/Leukemia and getting her vaccinations, Miss Nicks went to live in one of our casitas with some other older females. Last month, thanks to the efforts of Suzanna Persa, she was offered a Forever Home in Bellingham, WA.

In a stroke of luck, local resident Karen Holden was flying into Bellingham the next week and agreed to be her angel!

After a big send-off by Suzanna, Marilyn & Bama at the Vallarta airport, they were through security and on their way! Karen reports that customs at LAX was a breeze and after another plane change in Seattle they arrived in Bellingham where Stevie was met by her new moms Alana Simler & Loni Wiebe.

We are always so happy to see one of our older residents find a home. Meow!

Gracias! Thanks! Merci!

Rainy day at the PuRR shelter

We want to give a big whole-hearted “Thank You” to some folks who opened their hearts and checkbooks the past couple of months to help us fund some emergency repairs and equipment purchases this summer: Marty & Sharon Weber, Charlie & Carol McCullough, Angela Dodge & John Ryan, Pam & Milt Tanora, Sharon Rose, Liz Vargo, Gary Philips, Ed & June Gamble, Pam & Frank Sullivan, Jeff Bates, Eric Grossman, Marilyn Khan and Brenda Gill.

Thanks to you all, we have re-wired the ranch house, replaced two refrigerators, one washing machine and a ceiling fan, plus bought a lot of necessary medical supplies for the cats. We were lucky to have no major damage from the huge rainstorm on September 4th that brought high winds and over 8 inches of rain to the Bay!!
