The very second Lorena Peril bounced onto the stage with a driving beat accompaniment, I fell in love. She possesses an aura which first makes me at home and relaxed, then jumping in excitement watching her perform. The spotlights followed her as she flitted from one side of the stage to the other, strolling among the rows of seats, even up to the balcony. I whispered to myself, this fine lady has joyous expressions! She is self-assured and confident which I knew immediately when song after song was well-performed and joyous to all of us in the audience.

The popular Las Vegas headliner has been entertaining audiences on the Strip since her arrival in 2005. This fireball Latina was born in San Francisco, California and her mother in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In Las Vegas, she met vocalist and guitarist Ray Jon Narbaitz III who became her husband which led to a joining of forces on stage. He went from an acoustic guitar player to headliner with his wife. Now, they are spending the season right here for our delightful enjoyment. This was their opening night and judging by the reception, their run here at the Red Room will be successful in touching many guests and making their evening energetic and exciting.

Act II co-owner Elizabeth Wiggins Ensor says that Lorena will become "La Reina de Vallarta". To which, Lorena replies: "I'm La Reina and hubby is Rey!"

She covered songs from a wide array of genres and styles, from pop to Latin to rock to blues. In the latter category, a blues song "It Hurts so Bad", written by Susan Tedeschi, captured and made her own was possibly the highpoint of the show. She uses her wide vocal range and intensity of expression in her body and voice thrilling us with her performance. She even employs her ultra curly blond and brown hair to effect, tossing her head back and forth and toward the floor. Lorena is a bombshell knockout!

Songs made popular by Billy Joel, Roberta Flack, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison and the Temptations made our feet tap and body shake. A wild Latin with reggae slant smash hit by Selena "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" was one of my favorites showcasing Lorena's style and persona which I love so much. We knew who was in control this night and it was not we in the seats, it was the showmanship on stage.

Her husband Ray Jon accompanied her beautifully and presented his own interpretation of popular songs. It was easy to see that this duo is on the top of their game and know how to wrap the audience around their little fingers.

What a stupendous show sure to enlarge her already vast following and lovers of Lorena and her husband.

Married and Looking will be presented every Tuesday and Friday, 7:30 pm, at the Red Room through April.
