The Santa Barbara/Puerto Vallarta Sister City Committee once again has the opportunity to build ties of friendship with citizens from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, as a delegation of approximately 35 people arrived in Santa Barbara on July 19 for a week's visit.

The Sister City Board of Directors has been busy in planning activities and events which will generate opportunities for their members to interact and get to know the Sister City members from Puerto Vallarta. Many of them already have lasting friendships but it is desired to create even more.

The week of fun started with a pot-luck dinner at the home of Gil & Marti Garcia, where Santa Barbara Sister City members welcomed the Puerto Vallarta visitors when their bus arrived from LAX.

Moby Dick's Restaurant hosted a festive brunch on Friday in their wonderful wharf restaurant with fantastic ocean views.

A united celebration took place last night as the Santa Barbara Sister City Committee hosted El Fandango at the El Paseo Restaurant in Santa Barbara, California.

About 200 supporters wearing traditional Fiesta outfits attended the event.

Committee President Blas Garza led the fiesta that included traditional food, dancing to the music of the Martinez Brothers, a fashion show, and a united meeting between local leaders and guests from Puerto Vallarta, Santa Barbara's "sister city."

Raffle prizes included a 7-day stay in Casa Romance Escondido, a fabulous Puerto Vallarta home hidden in the hills of Old Town or El Centro, just 2 short blocks from the world famous and newly refurbished Malecon, including $500 towards airfare and meals in Puerto Vallarta. Thank you, Guy and Patricia's Vacation Rentals for the generous 7-day grand prize donation. Second prize was a beautiful piece of jewelry donated by Bryant & Son. Other prizes included two tickets to the Dodger/Giant baseball game with transportation, courtesy of Santa Barbara Airbus, dinner for two in historical El Paseo, and more.

Today, beginning at 4:00 pm, there will be a tour and light dinner at La Patera Park and Stow House. With this event, the Puerto Vallarta guests will be introduced to the early ranching heritage of Goleta Valley during the early 1900's, including a wonderful tour of the well-kept original Stow House.

On Wednesday, July 25, there will be a Goodbye "Americana" Party at the home of Bob and Laura Welby, with the wearing of red, white and blue.

Puerto Vallarta was chosen as a Santa Barbara Sister City because of comparable features including population, commerce, and tourism.

The two cities have a cultural (art and music), athletic, student, professional, industrial and commercial exchange.

The sister city program is a dedication of friendship and understanding between people of different cultures and attitudes to those who engage in the program.
