Camera Trap Sighting of Jaguar and Cub in Nayarit's Environmentally Protected Area Team Angels/Blanco Posadas - Lucena Informacion

The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) recorded with a camera "trap" the interaction of a Jaguar and her cub in the National Marshes Biosphere Reserve located in Riviera Nayarit.

Conanp reported that the aim of this monitoring with a "camera trap" made in the area of influence of this reserve is to know the distribution and abundance of the Jaguar (Panthera Onca) and other cats.

According to Conanp, the Jaguar is a species in danger of extinction.

Based on studies, it is estimated that the current population of Jaguar is at least 22 individuals, with an average density of 2-4 individuals per 100 square kilometers.

The recent video of the cat was caught in the first area for voluntary conservation certified by Conanp bearing the name "La Papalota" ("The Kite") and has an area of 368 hectares. The unit said that in this area the presence of other species such as Lynx, Ocelot, White Tailed Deer, Badger, Raccoon, Armadillo, Rabbit and Coyote have also been reported.

Monitoring of cats in the region has been implemented since 2009 and it has been promoted by the direction of the priority Region for Conservation of National Marshes Nayarit (Conanp).
